Jerusalem — water bodies
Jerusalem’s water landscape is shaped mainly by streams, springs, and valleys in the Judean Hills. In and around the city, the best-known spots include Nahal Refaim, the upper Nahal Sorek, Ein Lavan spring, Mary’s Spring in Ein Kerem, and the Beit Zayit Reservoir west of town. For swimming and classic waterside recreation, however, residents and visitors usually head to the Dead Sea, which is the most relevant and most popular large body of water near Jerusalem.
In July and August, Dead Sea water usually reaches 34–36°C (93–97°F), while in January and February it stays around 23–24°C (73–75°F). Jerusalem’s local streams and springs are better suited to walks, shaded picnic areas, and short stops by the water than to beach-style bathing. That is why the Dead Sea remains the main destination for warm-water swimming and spa отдых near the city.
