A busy weather week is beginning in France, which will affect almost all regions of the country.

According to synoptic charts, from Tuesday, January 20, until Sunday, January 25, the weather will be unstable and contrasting — from dry and sunny periods to rain, gusty winds, and snowfalls in the mountains.

On Tuesday, January 20, most of the central regions and the southeast will be under the influence of dry and fairly bright weather.

However, the situation will be different in the northeast: dense low clouds will linger in the plains and valleys, preventing daytime warmth from manifesting. In the west and southwest, clouds will increase, with residual rain possible near the Pyrenees and in Roussillon.

In Brittany, a new rain front is expected to approach in the afternoon, bringing stronger southerly winds.

On Wednesday, January 21, rain will return. While the east of the country and areas near the Swiss border will maintain calm and bright weather, an active precipitation zone with gusty winds will begin to advance in the northwest.

Isolated light precipitation is possible in the Cévennes. Temperatures will remain above the climatic norm, except in the northeastern valleys where coolness will persist.

Thursday, January 22, will be marked by instability. The southeast of France will be covered by rain, locally intense, and significant snowfall will occur in the mountains. The west will experience variable weather with brief showers and noticeable wind. Northeastern regions will temporarily remain free of precipitation — dry and bright weather is expected there.

On Friday, January 23, wet weather will spread further east. Precipitation will be especially active in the Alps and Corsica, where snow will begin already at mid-mountain elevations. After the front passes, the west will maintain frequent showers and strong winds, especially along the coasts.

On Saturday, January 24, rain and mountain snow will shift from the Atlantic towards the Alps and the Mediterranean. The north of the country will spend the day without precipitation but under cloudy skies. Temperatures will slightly decrease.

On Sunday, January 25, instability will persist in the south and southwest, as well as in the Alps and Corsica. The northeast will see noticeably more clearings. The cold snap will intensify but without sharp fluctuations.
